Roy J. Antonini

Roy J. Antonini, 83, of Dowell, passed away at 8:50 P.M., Thursday, April 22, 2004 at the Rehab and Care Center of Jackson County in Murphysboro.
Roy worked in the coal mines for fifty-two years and had worked at Peabody Coal Company as a project engineer.  He had also owned and operated Roy's Small Engine in Dowell.  He was of the Catholic faith.  He was a U.S. Navy veteran of W.W. II.  He was a member of Du Quoin VFW, Dowell American Legion, Farmington, IL Moose Lodge, DAV of Murphysboro, Italian Club in Dowell, Pigeon Inn in Herrin, UMW of A, Coal Belt Fire Protection Association.  He was a former Mayor of Dowell, former Trustee of Dowell, presently serving as Fire Commissioner of Dowell and member of Dowell Fire Department.
He was born February 20, 1921 at Herrin, IL, the son of Carlo and Teresa (Berra) Antonini.
He married Hazel E. (Cashion) Cobin on August 24, 1982 at Murphysboro, IL and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Dowell, sons - Thomas Antonini and wife Phyllis of Henderson, KY, Jack Antonini and wife Penny of Danville, IL, Steven Cobin and wife Valerie of Dowell, Timothy Cobin and wife Renee of Elkville, and Mark Cobin and wife Kim of San Antonio, TX, one sister - Madelene Antonini of Johnston City, IL, one brother - Frank Antonini of Johnston City, IL, fifteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, April 27, 2004 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Msgr. Harry Jerome and Bro. Gary Pruitt officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
Friends may make memorials to the Dowell Fire Department.
Graveside military rites were conducted.
